The invention relates to a device for adapting attachments on harvesting machines to the ground surface, in particular for cutter bars or mowing devices on combine harvesters and forage harvesters. The aim of the invention is to ensure that the measuring device which determines the distance of the attachment to the floor provides the measured value at such at a time that an accurate ground-surface adaptation takes place in response to the actual ground profile, that the distance is measured with extreme accuracy and that the ground-surface adaptation device is cost-effective to produce. To achieve this, the measuring device (17) consists of an outer divider (18), which glides along the floor and whose height can be adjusted in relation to the attachment (13), said divider being coupled with a sensor that generates an electric signal for detecting the distance (16). The runner (26) of the outer divider (18) which scans the ground projects in front of the attachment by a clear margin.
