Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to a method for mutually joining a pipe (1, 1') that consists of crosslinked polyethylene (PE-X) in at least the area which is adjacent to the surface that is to be welded and a pipe fitting (2, 2') made of non-crosslinked, optionally modified polyethylene (PE) by means of socket welding involving heating elements. The heating socket (7) of the heating element (6) serves for heating the pipe (1). The heating mandrill (8') of the heating element (6) serves for heating the pipe (1'). The heating socket (7) is provided with a conical inner useful area (14) or the heating mandrill (8') is provided with a conical outer useful area (16') that is provided with no or only little anti-adhesive effect in relation to the pipe (1, 1') so that the adherence between the pipe (1) and the heating socket (7) or between the pipe (1') and the heating mandrill (8') causes the surface of the pipe (1, 1') to crack open, hereby increasing said surface, when the pipe (1) is torn out of the heating socket (7) or when the pipe (1') is pulled off the heating mandrill (8'), whereby said surface is to be welded.
