In a process to condition finely cut tobacco, the cut tobacco is gently heated and moistened, bringing the moisture content to a maximum of 18 to 18.5 per cent. The tobacco is then immediately sieved and cooled, the moisture content at this stage being a maximum of 17 to 17.5 per cent.
