Zusammenfassung: | A process for the production of L-ascorbic acid by microorganisms is disclosed. The process includes culturing organisms selected from the group consisting of organisms of the genus Prototheca and organisms of the species Chlorella protothecoides in a fermentation having a pH of less than about 6.0. The process further includes recovering L-ascorbic acid from the fermentation medium. A primary advantage of the disclosed process is that high concentrations of extracellular L-ascorbic acid are produced and at the pH of the disclosed process, significant degradation of extracellular L-ascorbic acid by oxidation does not occur. L-ascorbic acid has many known uses, such as for vitamin supplements. |
