Zusammenfassung:A conical optical-element array (40) in which a number of conical optical elements (41) are arrayed is placed on a side which receives incident light, wherein virtual light sources (41a) are formed by end faces of conical optical elements from which light emerges. The light rays which have emerged from the virtual light sources are acted upon by corresponding microlenses (38) of a microlens array, whereby the images of the light sources are focused on respective apertures (24) (areas occupied by pixel electrodes) of a liquid-crystal panel. As a result, a large amount of light is capable of being transmitted by the liquid crystal so that a bright liquid-crystal image may be obtained.
