The dioxanes are prepared by reacting, in the presence of a Lewis acid or a protic acid, malonic anhydride with a ketone of the formula R3C(O)R4, in which R3 and R4 denote alkyl or aryl groups or together form an unsubstituted or substituted cyclic system.
