Zusammenfassung: | Multilayer coating for a metal-cutting tool comprises alternating layers of a Gp.IV metal nitride or carbide, and a Gp.VI metal nitride, carbide, boride or silicide. Pref. the former layer has a thickness of 0.05-0.5 micron and the latter layer has thickness 15-40% that of the former layer. The metal-cutting tool with the specified coating can be used esp. for cutting high alloy steels and other alloys. The coating has high strength and a low tendency to grip the surface of the metal being worked. The layers may be deposited by known methods, e.g. vapour deposition or reactive sputtering. |
