Zusammenfassung:A copolymer of unsatd. aromatic cpds. comprises na) randomly distributed, recurring units of formula: (where R may be H, K or Na), and (b) terminal gps. chosen from indene, m-vinyltoluene, alpha-Me-styrene, dicyclopentadiene, styrene and maleic anhydride. Its mol. wt. is 800-1200 as determined cryoscopically. The copolymer is prepd. by copolymsn. of the C+9-fraction b. pt. range 150-200 degrees C and maleic anhydride at atmos, pressure and 40-100 degrees C in the presence of a Lewis acid catalysts. The prods. can be saponified with KOH and also NaOH. The process eliminates one step. The prod. is an equivalent substitute for the more expensive rosin.
