[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises polychlorinated indolene and quinoline derivatives of the general formula in which R represents a -CCl 2 - or -CCl = CClgroup and z is a whole number from 1 to 4. These and other aromatic tertiary amines may be made by heating a compound of formula in which R1 and R5 are hydrogen, chlorine or a C 1 -C 3 perchlorinated alkyl radical, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, chlorine, a C 1 -C 3 perchlorinated alkyl radical or the group -N=C(C1)Y (R5 and R1 not both being hydrogen) or two adjacent groups from R1 to R5 can form a fused benzene ring which itself can carry substituents R3-R5; and Y is chlorine or a C 1 -C 3 perchlorinated alkyl radical, to a temperature of 250-800 C. |
