Zusammenfassung: | Polymers having recurring units of the formula wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl, B is -CO.O- or -CONH-, "alk" is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and M is hydrogen, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, are prepared by polymerization of the monomers or by reaction of a polyacrylyl chloride or polymethacrylyl chloride with a hydroxyalkyl sulphonic acid or with an aminoalkyl sulphonic acid. Examples are given of the polymerization of N-(2-sulphoethyl) acrylamide in aqueous solution using potassium persulphate as catalyst, and of the polymerization of 3-sulphopropyl methacrylate under pressure in a sealed tube using potassium persulphate and sodium bisulphite.ALSO:N-(2-Sulpho-ethyl) acrylamide is prepared by adding acrylyl chloride to a cooled solution of 2-amino-ethane sulphonic acid in aqueous sodium hydroxide. 3-Sulphopropyl methacrylate is prepared by adding methacrylyl chloride to a heated mixture of 3-hydroxypropane sulphonic acid, n-heptane and m-dinitrobenzene. |
