Zusammenfassung: | A total of 16l lentil fields in the northern, southern,
central, northeastern and coastal regions of Syria were
surveyed during 1990191, l99ll92 and 1992193 cropping
seasons to determine the presence of seed-borne viruses.
Two hundreds lentil seedlings were collected from each
field, and were divided into groups of 25 seedlings each.
ELISA tests revealed the presence of pea seed-borne
mosaic virus (PSbMV) in 0.61% of samples collected from
southern grovernorates only. Broad bean stain virus
(BBSV) was detectedin 56l16l fields: l0/30, 15152,5131.
24129 and 2/10 with disease incidence of 0.49, 0.63, 0.42 3.35 and 0.37 % in northern, southern, central,
northeastern and coastal regions, respectively. Infection
with BBSV at pre-flowering, flowering and post flowering
(podding) stages led to a yield loss of 24,31 and 25o/o and
seed transmission rates of 20.57, 19.11 and 1.500 ,
respectively. Like-wise, infection with PSbMV at the
above three growth stages led to a yield loss of 28,27 and
23% and seed transmission rates of 2.21,1.50 and 0.41%
respectively. |
