في النظرية السياسية المعاصرة ، تميل معظم أدبياتها إلى الاسترشاد بالفكر السياسي الساعي إلى المزيد من الواقعية و الوضوح لتجنب مناهج الفلسفة التأملية أو الأخلاق القيمية الخالصة. و قد كانت الدعوة إلى دراسة التطورات السياسية الموضوعية قد بلغت ذروتها في القرن العشرين عندما طالب المنظرون بإخضاع الدراسة السياسية و أساليب البحث للطرق العلمية التجريبية البحتة. أدى ذلك إلى ظهور مصطلحات و مفاهيم جديدة في مجال النظرية السياسية مثل السلطة والقوة و و التصويت كمفاهيم محايدة بدلاً من كونها قياسية ، من منطلق الأهمية الكمية التي يمكن إخضاعها لها. ارتبط هذا بظهور المدرسة الوضعية المنطقية التي تتعارض مع الفلسفة المثالية. أدت هذه التطورات إلى ظهور المدرسة السلوكية في القرن العشرين في مجال علم النفس التجريبي. بما في ذلك الدراسات السياسية حيث أرست الاتجاهات العلمية في التعامل النظري مع الظواهر السياسية ، و التي انتصرت نوعا ما على النظرية السياسية الكلاسيكية التي لم تستطع تقديم البيانات الكمية التي يمكن أن تخضع لمنهج يقبله العقل العلمي التجريبي الحديث... In the contemporary political theory, it is directed to the political thought seeking for more reality and obviousness to avoid the speculative philosophy or the pure ethic. Calling for studying objective political developments had reached its climax in the twentieth century when the theorists demanded to submit the political study and research methods to the pure experimental scientific methods. This resulted in the appearance of new terms and concepts in the field of the political theory such as power, authority, uniformity and voting as neutral rather concepts, than standard, out of the quantitative significance. This was associated with the rise of the logical positive school that opposite philosophy. These developments resulted in the rise of behaviorism, in the twentieth century in the field of experimental psychology. including the political studies where it established the scientific trends in the theoretical dealing with the political phenomena, defeating the classical political theory which could not present the data that could be subjected to a methodology accepted by the modem scientific reason.
