Zusammenfassung:This chapter discusses how the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) can play a unique role in mainstreaming and strengthening the interconnections between tobacco control and human rights in the region. In particular, it provides an overview and examines the potential of the different ways in which the IAHRS offers avenues that can be used to hold the tobacco industry accountable for human rights violations at the regional level. It delves into different mechanisms under the IAHRS and the recent developments in terms of the right to health and business and human rights to conclude that the IAHRS is uniquely positioned to hold States accountable for their human rights violations and to further develop normative standards on tobacco and human rights.
