Zusammenfassung: | Toll et al. recently reported the isolation of a new atrial peptide-degrading enzyme (ADE) from bovine kidney that preferentially cleaves atrial peptide substrates at their Ser-Phe bond. ADE is inhibited by general protease inhibitors that inhibit either metallo or cysteine proteases. However, it is not inhibited by phosphoramidon, an inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase 24.11. The development of selective inhibitors of ADE would be useful for studying this new enzyme, and such inhibitors could serve as novel antihypertensive agents.
