Zusammenfassung: | In extending earlier studies, the nucleation of ethanol-water mixtures is analyzed using Ludwieg tube flow in combination with a differential interferometer and high speed photographic diagnostics. Excellent agreement with calculations employing binary nucleation theory is obtained for alcohol-rich mixtures whereas for high water concentrations differences between experiment and theory are observed. This is attributed to the characteristic change of the surface tension. The importance of the expansion rate is demonstrated.
