Zusammenfassung:This paper discusses the theoretical and empirical foundations of the use of storytelling in instruction. The definition of story is provided, and four instructional methods related to storytelling are identified: case-based instruction, narrative-based instruction, scenario-based instruction, and problem-based instruction. The article describes each of the four instructional methods and provides an example of the method within an instructional setting; identifies research foundations and relevant theoretical literature; and proposes research questions and agendas for further study of the use of storytelling in instruction. Published in the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning, v3 n2 p6-23, Fall 2009. Prepared in cooperation with Boeing, Inc. and the Cognitive Engineering Research Institute, Mesa, AZ. Sponsored in part by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Air Force Research Laboratory/HEAT.
