Zusammenfassung:Numerical simulations which examine the ballistic effects of charge configuration, location of igniter output, and interface characteristics in a conceptual two-piece cartridge are presented. The focus of this study is on the occurrence of high-amplitude pressure waves associated with these variables. Results show that all-stick charge configuration is the most forgiving system which alloys a wide variety of igniter output arrangement without causing pressure wave concern. Uniform ignition along the entire charge length produces good pressure behavior in all charge configurations. Localized basepad ignition in a granular charge may result in strong pressure waves or high intergranular stress or both. The strength, impermeability, and duration of rupturing of the cartridge component interface may also strongly affect the Interior ballistics. These calculated results illustrate the importance of a proper design of the charge and ignition system.
