Zusammenfassung:	The use of direct electric-driven handpieces in the dental laboratory has become the standard over the use of belt-driven handpieces. The recently developed units have increased power, speed, and features over those of several years ago. The United States Air Force (USAF) Dental Investigation Services (DIS) has undertaken a study to compare the features and capabilities of the most common handpieces on the market. The information in this study can be used by dental clinics to assist in the selection of electric handpieces to meet their particular requirement. Handpieces were tested at DIS for physical characteristics, maximum power, and speed. Keywords: Dental equipment.
