Zusammenfassung:These proceedings are those of a symposium held on 25 September 1986 at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C., to commemorate and celebrate the establishment, in 1946, of the U.S. Join Services Electronics Program (JSEP). In that year, forward-looking scientists and administration leaders at universities that had been engaged in wartime-related research, and military service agencies of the federal government, established JSEP for the purpose of carrying on university-type research of interest to all components of the military. The first of the universities involved were the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Harvard University, and Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. These were soon followed by Stanford University, the University of California, Berkely, the Universities of Illinois, Southern California, Texas and others. There are presently 12 universities in the program, which has expanded and contracted from time to time as interest and available funds have changed. Prepared in cooperation with ANSER, Arlington, VA.
