Zusammenfassung:Gerontology nursing is a growing specialty in the civilian sector with more than 40 colleges and universities offering accredited masters' programs in gerontology. Air Force facilities provide health care for retirees and their dependents, yet there are no gerontology nurses in the Air Force. This staff analysis examines population changes in the U.S. and DOD retired population, reviews the use of Air Force facilities by retirees (especially elderly retirees), identifies the uniqueness of the elderly that makes their care a specialty, and explores possible roles for the gerontological nurse in the Air Force.
