Zusammenfassung: | Airborne and ground-based flight simulation are complementary techniques widely used in aeronautical research and development. The rapid advances in recent years both in the level of sophistication and in the degree of attainable fidelity for modern ground-based flight simulation systems has, however, called into question the future role of in-flight simulators in the research and development processes. The premise that this role may soon disappear has been addressed by a Subcommittee of the AGARD Flight Mechanics Panel. It is concluded that general-purpose airborne simulators and special-purpose research aircraft will continue to serve a useful complementary role to the ground-based simulator through the next generation of aircraft development programmes. |
