Zusammenfassung: | This report contains a description of the methods and assumptions employed in the development of a program of instruction (POI) on equal opportunity (EO) aspects of company-level leadership and supervisory responsibilities in the U.S. Army. This experimental POI was based on earlier work which resulted in a comprehensive model for EO education and training for all Army members. This POI focuses on decisions made at small unit level which have the potential to contribute to either the perpetuation of or the elimination of institutional race and sex discrimination. Because most small unit leaders and supervisors are unaware of the potential impacts of their daily decisions on EO statistics and racial/EO climate, the emphasis is on relating basic EO concepts to the specific job responsibilities of supervisors and leaders. The complete POI is included as an appendix to the report. The POI consists of two phases. The first consists of approximately four hours of individual, self-paced instruction employing video taped leadership situations and programmed instruction to convey specific teaching points. The second phase is group-oriented instruction in which the entire body of NCOs and officers in a company-equivalent unit participates as a group in four hours of lecture, guided discussion and group tasks. |
