Zusammenfassung: | A contingency management framework, which focuses on the usefulness of a management technique when applied to a particular problem, served as the basis for this study. About 500 Navy middle management problems were identified, analyzed, and systematically reduced to eight clusters of problems through hierarchical clustering and factor analysis. Next, 31 relevant management techniques were classified, based on implementation tasks required, and reduced to six clusters through a multidimensional analysis. The six management technique clusters and the eight management problem clusters were then incorporated into a Problems x Techniques Matrix, where each cell represents organizational outcomes prior to and following application of a specific management technique to a particular management problem.
