Characterization of Surfaces on an Atomic Scale by Field Ionization Energy Spectra
Field ionization energy spectra of ions produced at a metallic surface are studied in order to relate the distributions in energy to surface properties. The technique provides information about the mechanical and electronic properties of the surface on the level of single surface atoms. Instrumentat...

Zusammenfassung: | Field ionization energy spectra of ions produced at a metallic surface are studied in order to relate the distributions in energy to surface properties. The technique provides information about the mechanical and electronic properties of the surface on the level of single surface atoms. Instrumentation details are discussed and experimental results of the project given. Examples of energy distributions are given and the experimental relationship between distributions and imaging gas properties is discussed. |
