Zusammenfassung: | A rock core testing program was conducted for the U.S. Army Engineer District, Chicago, as part of a continuing foundation investigative program. After reviewing available reports and current drilling activity, a testing program was recommended and subsequently carried out. A sufficient number of laboratory tests were conducted on representative bedrock samples and an analysis of these tests was made. Limited field work was conducted in order to obtain information about orientations of discontinuities. Laboratory tests consisted of index property tests (including unit weights, specific gravity of solids, moisture content, porosity, and compressional wave velocity), unconfined compression, triaxial, tensile, and direct shear tests. Direct shear tests were conducted on intact core, precut surfaces, natural joints, and on thin shale beds contained in dolomite. A petrographic examination was conducted on selected samples to ascertain nomenclature and mineral content. |
