Analysis of Marine Aerosols by Combined Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Analysis

Zusammenfassung: | Scanning electron micrographs of several types of marine aerosols (airborne particulates) are shown, and explanations of the sampling methods are given in this article. These aerosols were collected at altitudes from 600 ft (0.2 km) to 24,000 ft (7.3 km) during airplane flights, and near the ocean-air interface during ship cruises. Some preliminary results of energy dispersive x-ray analysis of the various types of particles are given. The advantages of these methods, together with some other possible applications, are outlined. |
