Zusammenfassung:The problem is primarily concerned with the determination of the feasibility of optical heterodyne techniques through a real atmosphere at 10.6 micron wavelength. In addition, data gathering on range and range rate of moving targets is a secondary goal. The method in which range and range rate are to be obtained is by the use of frequency modulated laser beam techniques. The FM modulation will be a triangular waveform sawtooth operating at 10000 Hz on the optical carrier frequency of 3 X 10 to the 13th power Hz. The effort during the first quarter as reported in technical report number 1 places emphasis upon the theoretical analysis of the problem and consisted of design time for fabricating the multiple target coherent optical receiver feasibility test model. Some additional theoretical analysis has been performed during the second quarterly period; however, the major effort during this period consisted of providing fabrication time to obtain finished hardware for the feasibility model.
