Zusammenfassung: | The mechanism of delayed fracture and formation of cold cracks in plastic titanium alloys is examined on the basis of the contemporary dislocation models of Ziner-Stroh, Gilman and Pozhanskiy, Hall and others. The dislocation mechanism of formation of submicroscopic cracks also permits one to establish a basis for the existing concept regarding the effect of hydrogen on brittleness of metals, since it remained unclear as to how hydrogen can be released from solid solution without the presence of ready nuclei of certain size.
