Zusammenfassung:An electrogasdynamic concept of fog dispersal, proposed by Gourdine Systems, Inc. (GSI), was field tested on fogs in the Panama Canal Zone. Qualitative visibility improvements were obtained in those experiments where field apparatus functioned as proposed. Quantitatively, the space-charge density and induced electric fields created by the technique were of the right order of magnitude as predicted by the GSI model. Ten fog dispersal tests, employing sixteen electrogasdynamic spray gun units, were conducted in the Panama Canal Zone. Two of the tests could not be evaluated because of equipment malfunction and natural fog dissipation. Results from the remaining tests showed that while clearing trends were achieved during six out of eight tests, the magnitude and persistence of visibility improvement as well as the time to achieve such improvement varied widely from test to test.
