Body Recovery Dog

A four-month study that demonstrated the feasibility of training dogs to search for and locate human casualties under conditions that might exist in the aftermath of man-made or natural disasters was conducted as a joint project by the U.S. Army Land Warfare Laboratory and the U. S. Army Infantry School. Four body recovery teams, each consisting of a dog and its handler, were trained to search in mud, water, rubble of demolished buildings, wrecked vehicles, and in sanitary fills and dumps for simulated human casualties. The teams are available for employment by civilian as well as by military authorities in the event of a disaster.
