The Absorption Spectra of Krypton and Xenon in Their Regions of Autoionization
The absorption cross section spectra of krypton and xenon, obtained at narrow spectral bandwidths are reported. Both gases were studied in their regions of autoionization, 840 to 880 A and 918 to 990 A for Kr and Xe, respectively. In Kr over the entire wavelength range, and in Xe from 918 to 939.5 A...

Zusammenfassung: | The absorption cross section spectra of krypton and xenon, obtained at narrow spectral bandwidths are reported. Both gases were studied in their regions of autoionization, 840 to 880 A and 918 to 990 A for Kr and Xe, respectively. In Kr over the entire wavelength range, and in Xe from 918 to 939.5 A, the bandwidth employed was 0.04 A. From 939.5 to 990 A in Xe a bandwidth of 0.08 A had to be used in order to avoid overlapping orders. Results are corrected for the integrating effect of the bandwidth where possible. More than twice as much structure than previously measured in the autoionizing series singlet S(0) (4s)2(4p)6 to (4p)5 md' and(4p)5 ns' for Kr and singlet S(0) (5s)2(5p)6 to(5p)5 md' and ns' for Xe is reported.
