Zusammenfassung: | The paper is a brief exposition of one of the most rapidly converging approximate methods for solving elliptical and parabolic differential equations (variable directions method) and a description of numerical experiments for application of this method in prognostic problems. Test problems are given for solution of the Poisson equation with a special right hand side; this made it possible to draw preliminary conclusions concerning the relative effectiveness of the method for different values of the parameters of convergence in stationary and nonstationary computation processes.
