Zusammenfassung: | Awareness of the perturbing effects of near-surface soils on local electromagnetic signal propagation has led to a program aimed at correlating electrical properties of soil with environmental factors. This information is expected to lead to a predictive capability for soils in militarily inaccessible regions. Such a capability is significant for remote sensor deployment, etc. in tactical situations. In the present study, the electrical conductivity of near-surface soils of Virginia was investigated as part of a study of the electrical behavior of the temperate soils of the Middle Atlantic Region of the United States.
