Zusammenfassung: | Nanosecond flash photolysis of alpha-nitronaphthalene (alpha-NO2C10H7) in polar and nonpolar solvents led to the detection of the triplet-triplet absorption spectrum of this nitrocompound. The assignment of the experimentally observed absorption spectrum to the triplet (T(1)) to triplet (T(2)) transition was based on spectroscopic and kinetic studies of phosphorescence and absorption decay of the alpha-NO2C10H7triplet in a PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) matrix at liguid nitrogen temperature. This assignment was further confirmed by riplet-triplet energy transfer experiments. The change of dipole moment accompany the transiton T(1) to T(2) in deaerated ethanol and n-methylformamide was calculated. Rate constants for quenching of the lowest triplet excited state of alpha-NO2C10H7 by molecular oxygen and galvinoxyl stable free radical, as well as by proton and electron transfer reactions, were determined.
