Zusammenfassung:An improvement is reported in the technique of the Murayama test, a simple specific test for hemoglobin S reported originally by this laboratory in 1970. The improvements consist of: (1) the optional use of N2 or dry ice; and (2) the elimination of several steps in the test for the preparation of concentrated hemolysates by use of a dense sucrose-detergent lysing solution. This reduces the performance time per test from 1 hour to 20 minutes, without adverse effect on reliability or accuracy of the test result. (Author)
