Evaluation of the Effect of Additives on the Operation of Cams and Push Rods in Automobile Engines on a Laboratory Installation
Domestic and foreign antiseizing additives were evaluated with the use of push-rods of cementite steel or steel coated with phosphatized cast iron and cams of steel or cast iron (1.1-1.25 percent Cr, 0.4-0.6 percent Ni, 0.4-0.6 percent Mo, 3.2 percent C, 2.1 percent Si, 0.9 percent Mn). Certain meta...

Zusammenfassung: | Domestic and foreign antiseizing additives were evaluated with the use of push-rods of cementite steel or steel coated with phosphatized cast iron and cams of steel or cast iron (1.1-1.25 percent Cr, 0.4-0.6 percent Ni, 0.4-0.6 percent Mo, 3.2 percent C, 2.1 percent Si, 0.9 percent Mn). Certain metal thiophosphate antiseizing additives diminish also the pitting tendency of the cam and push-rod faces. The laboratory method gave good coincidence with results of performance tests and can be used in testing of oil additives for high-compression carbureted engines as well as in the control of cams and push-rod manufacturing.
