HIGH-TEMPERATURE THERMOMECHANICAL TREATMENT OF LARGE STEEL FORGINGS

Zusammenfassung:This paper evaluates the possibility of using high-temperature thermomechanic treatment (HTTMT) for hardening heavy forgings of experimental steel E1612K. HTTMT may be accomplished under conditions of deformation at rates on the order of 0.5 -1 percent per sec on large forgings. In steel E1612K this treatment produces recrystallized structures in forgings 500 mm in diameter and up to 200 mm thick. HTTMT of forgings of this size increases their hardness and high-temperature resistance with a satisfactory degree of uniformity throughout the cross-section of the forging. The favorable effect of HTTMT is associated with intensification of the aging process, fragmented structure, and distortion of the grain boundaries. (Author)
