STUDY OF THE BRAIN MECHANISMS UNDERLYING THE CHANGES OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND THEIR ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL CORRELATES
The study of the brain mechanisms underlying the changes of the level of consciousness and their electrophysiological correlates has been approached in the following ways. (A) Brain stem and forebrain influences on the behavioral and EEG patterns of wakefulness and sleep. (a) Study of the brain stem...

Zusammenfassung: | The study of the brain mechanisms underlying the changes of the level of consciousness and their electrophysiological correlates has been approached in the following ways. (A) Brain stem and forebrain influences on the behavioral and EEG patterns of wakefulness and sleep. (a) Study of the brain stem and forebrain influences on the maintenance of behavioral and EEG patterns of sleep in man. (b) Study of the brain stem structures responsible for the EEG patterns of paradoxical sleep in the cat. (c) Induction of paradoxical sleep by direct brain stimulations in the cat. (B) Cerebral evoked electrical activity and level of consciousness. Study of the averaged visual evoked response during sleep, barbiturate narcosis and coma in man and cats. (C) Organization of the EEG activity during sleep and comatose states in man: autocorrelographic and spectral power analysis. (Author) |
