Zusammenfassung: | Plutonium is expected in the not too distant future to become an important fuel for the generation of power in industrial countries; and by the early 1980's, the United States, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, France, West Germany, and Japan expect to have 1000-Mwe plutonium-fueled breeder reactors in operation. The change to fast breeders will eventually lead to the presence of rapidly multiplying stocks of plutonium. This study discusses the future role of plutonium and suggests the possible effect of its coming industrial importance on the control of fissionable materials. (Author) |
