MEASUREMENT OF WELD THERMAL CYCLES IN 2-INCH TITANIUM PLATE
In order to get basic data for welding, thermal cycles were determined for points adjacent to metallic-arc-welds in 2-inch Ti-5Al-2.5 Sn alloy plate, for last-pass and midplate positions, at energy inputs of 17.5 to 28.4 kilojoules per inch with preheat temperatures of 75 to 300F. These data were pr...

Zusammenfassung: | In order to get basic data for welding, thermal cycles were determined for points adjacent to metallic-arc-welds in 2-inch Ti-5Al-2.5 Sn alloy plate, for last-pass and midplate positions, at energy inputs of 17.5 to 28.4 kilojoules per inch with preheat temperatures of 75 to 300F. These data were presented in a general form to permit calculation of the instantaneous temperature at any time and distance from the weld centerline for any given welding conditions of an arc weld in 2-in. Ti5Al-2.5 Sn alloy plate. Furthermore, it is anticipated that these data will be applicable to many titanium-base alloy plates thicker than 1 inch without any significant errors. (Author)
