Zusammenfassung: | Submerged subcavitating hydrofoil systems may be designed to operate efficiently over the entire speed range from take-off to maximum non-cavitating speeds. Such hydrofoil systems have optimum efficiency in the intermediate speed range between take-off and maximum non-cavitating speed and this optimum may be only slightly less than the efficiency that would be obtained if the foil were designed for the maximum speed. Hydrofoil systems which utilize double slotted flaps for lift control are more efficient over the entire speed range than hydrofoils utilizing incidence or plain trailing edge flaps. Surface piercing foil systems may be operated over a wide speed range with little change in resistance. (Author)
