EFFECT OF PLASTIC DEFORMATION OF THE GAMMA PHASE ON THE STRENGTHENING OF IRON-NICKEL ALLOY DURING SUBSEQUENT MARTENSITIC TRANSFORMATION

Zusammenfassung: | In an iron-nickel alloy, the increase in the hardness by thermo-mechanical processing may be separated into two component parts: the effect produced by deformation and the effect connected with martensitic conversion. With the increase in the degree of deformation, the intensification of the hardness brought about by the deformation increases, and that connected with the martensitic conversion decreases. There was not revealed any essential difference between the sizes of the mosaic blocks of the alpha-phase in the specimens subjected to different degrees of reduction (compression) in the austenite state, and in the undeformed specimens after intense cooling.
