Zusammenfassung: | Progress achieved on the study of passive laser Qswitching techniques is summarized. Laser Q-switching techniques afforded by electro-optical or rotating prism devices are discussed. Actually, because of the large photon flux available in a highly inverted laser such as ruby, effective Q-switching is possible using a passive solid-state or liquid component. Such a component is placed inside the resonator, contributes loss, and thus holds off the oscillation until the laser is pumped to a high predetermined inversion level. Initial lasing causes the component to become nearly transparent in a very short time, and the giant pulse is delivered with little loss from the passive Q-switching component.
