Zusammenfassung: | An investigation is described leading to the development of a high power microwave gas duplexer utilizing a fixed external magnetic field to improve switching efficiency within the limit of a specified recovery time. The magnetic field is transverse, i.e., perpendicular to both the microwave electric field and the narrow waveguide sidewalls, and parallel to the axis of the discharge tube. It is shown that under appropriate conditions such a field simultaneously produces substantial reductions in both recovery time and discharge arc loss. A prototype duplexer utilizing this effect and designed to operate at 50 megawatts peak100 kilowatts average in S-band is described. (Author)
