THE TWO-RESPONSE PROBLEM

Two responses, y sub 1 and y sub 2, are determined by the control values x sub 1, x sub 2, ..., x sub p. It is desirable to achieve high values of y sub 1 and y sub 2 by a choice of the values of the control variables. Usually the values of x sub 1, x sub 2, ..., x sub p that maximize y sub 1 will n...

Zusammenfassung:Two responses, y sub 1 and y sub 2, are determined by the control values x sub 1, x sub 2, ..., x sub p. It is desirable to achieve high values of y sub 1 and y sub 2 by a choice of the values of the control variables. Usually the values of x sub 1, x sub 2, ..., x sub p that maximize y sub 1 will not maximize y sub 2 so that a compromise will be necessary. The following steps were taken in solving the problem: (1) The complete set of efficient points is defined in such a way that the control variables should always belong to the set. (2) A method for finding the complete set of efficient points is obtained. (3) Help in selecting a particular member from the complete set is given by means of confidence limits on the future responses. (Author)
