AN APPLICATION OF SELF-PHASING ARRAY ANTENNAS TO THE RADAR DETECTION PROBLEM

Zusammenfassung:A system concept is proposed which may reduce the communication and data processing problem by using self-phasing array antennas and a modulation scheme in which the forward (offset) radar transmits its pointing angles via reflection from the target to the main (terminal) site A comparison of signal to noise ratio's for the single terminal radar and the multiple radar case is presented for a particular target and trajectory. The comparison shows the multiple radar system to be superior to the singje radar by 15 db for the particular case chosen. The 15 db improvement means that to achieve equivalent performance the forward site radar power or sensitivity can be reduced by a factor of 32 over the main site radar. Reductions in performance of this order of magnitude can be directly related to radar equipment cost andsize. (Author-
