Zusammenfassung:A survey on the effects of ozone, oxides of nitrogen, and solar ultraviolet radiation was conducted in order o assess their significance in the design and safe operation of a supersonic transport. Effects on the passengers and crew as well as the structural design are considered in the light of existing knowledge. This report is subdivided into sections concerned with the natural occurrence and distribution of the gases in question, their toxicology, interaction with structural materials, and problems associated with their removal from the cabin environment. A summary is given of the effects of solar ultraviolet radiation on high altitude flying because of the intimate interaction of ozone with solar ultraviolet radiation.
