Zusammenfassung:THE INITIAL PHASE OF FLAME ACCELERATION DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF DETONATION IN STOICHIOMETRIC HYDROGEN-OXYGEN MIXTURES, WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON THE GENERATION OF PRESSURE WAVES AT THE FLAME FRONT, WAS INVESTIGATED. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY MEANS OF STREAK SELF-LIGHT, STREAK SCHLIEREN, AND FLASH SCHLIEREN PHOTOGRAPHS, TOGETHER WITH SIMULTANEOUS PRESSURE MEASUREMENT AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN THE INDUCTION REGIME. EXPERIMENTAL RECORDS REVEALED CONSIDERABLE DETAIL OF THE PRESSURE WAVE AHEAD OF THE FLAME. THEY YIELD ALSO EVIDENCE OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE REACTION ZONE, AS WELL AS INFORMATION ON THE TRANSITION FROM A WRINKLED LAMINAR TO A TURBULENT FLAME. MARKED INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF IGNITION, SPARK DISCHARGE, PILOT FLAME, AND GLOW COIL, HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED. THE FLAME ACCELERATION AND PRESSURE HISTORY COMPUTATIONS WERE IN SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATION
