Zusammenfassung:is a cellulolytic anaerobic thermophile that is a promising candidate for consolidated bioprocessing of lignocellulosic biomass into biofuels such as ethanol. It was previously shown that expressing in increases ethanol yield. In this study, we investigated expression of genes from different organisms in . Based on sequence identity to , we chose genes from 10 other organisms: , , , , strain AN1, , , , , and . All 11 genes (including ) were expressed in and fermentation end products were analyzed. All 11 genes increased ethanol yield compared to the empty-vector control. and genes generated significantly higher ethanol yield than . Our results indicated that expressing is an effective method of increasing ethanol yield in wild-type , and that this appears to be a general property of genes.
