Ippolito Aldobrandini, best known as Pope Clemente VIII, served the church at the turn of the 17th century, an important time for Catholicism. Aldobrandini aimed to maintain civil relations within Europe while extending the power of the Catholic church, especially in England. His nephew, archbishop Pietro Aldobrandini, also was influential.
